Healthcare is changing across Eastern and Central Africa — and Ethiopia is at the centre of the transformation. There is a high demand of modern, efficient and human friendly healthcare facilities. This belief is at the heart of Haji Abdallah Hospital, an upcoming healthcare facility in Ethiopia whose journey we’re proud to shape. As the lead designers and project managers, HDL developed the full architectural and engineering plans. We now oversee the project to ensure the vision is translated accurately on the ground.
Our core focus as the Healthcare Designers Limited (HDL) is to create a safe haven for patients. A place where dignity and healing is felt the moment a patient walks in a hospital. It is important to realize that a hospital is more than just walls and equipment.
(The construction itself is being executed by the contractor appointed by the client.)

When we are making designs for the healthcare facilities, HDL’s approach blends evidence-based planning with clinical workflow optimization, and a deep respect for patients and staff, from the first day of the idea being put on the table to the day the staff of the facility report to work after completion of the project.
- Patient – Centred Flow
Patient zones and staff-only circulation are separated to reduce stress, improve privacy for the patients, and increase operational efficiency for the construction workers.

The hospital is built around the idea that healing starts with the environment itself — light that lifts the spirit, colors that calm the mind, and air that flows exactly where the body needs it most.
- Safety and Accessibility
Prevention is better than cure. And yes, we believe that, 100%. So, every room, corridor, and department is designed with safety first — but without losing the touch of warmth and welcome a hospital should offer.
Efficiency That Saves Lives
Emergencies demand precision.
We design the hospital’s most critical departments — Emergency, ICU, Imaging, and Theatres — to be within immediate reach of each other.
This helps with optimized flow, reduced critical patient transfer times, strengthening clinical coordination, and lowers infection risks. Thus directly improving patient outcomes.
The Vision Taking Shape
As the project managers, HDL ensures the intent of the original design / renders in every phase of construction are honored. From the structural accuracy to interior detailing, our role is to protect the vision and functionality of the hospital.
